chill winston- VANCOUVER
after always hearing people talk about dining at chill winston for years, i FINALLY had the opportunity to venture my way down to this restaurant & lounge in gastown. my friend and i waited fifteen minutes for a table which wasn’t bad considering it a friday night. we weren’t very hungry to begin with so we ordered a few drinks and light bites to ready ourselves for our club crawl. we’ve learned to always eat before drinking ;)!
(right to left) spooning jesus- appleton VX amber rum & soho lychee liqueur & triple sec orange liqueur & fresh lime ($9) and merry magdelene- crème de pêche & sparkling wine & fresh lemon & splash of cranberry juice & twist of lemon ($11)
the cocktails are unique and surprisingly delightful! the ratio of alcohol and juice was just right.
prawn salad- ocean friendly prawns poached in ponzu, served over the winston mix greens, bean sprouts, pea shoots, peanuts, scallions with red wine vinaigrette ($13)
one of the most refreshing salad i’ve had in a while. the dressing is similar to ponzu but more citrusy without being sour. i also liked the addition of bean sprouts giving it a bit of an asian flare. i was afraid that the prawns would be bland but they were tasty and full of flavor!
double jack poutine- thick cut french fries, cheese curds, monterey jack cheese, and a savoury jack daniels demi (&9)
mm the perfect finger food. the fries are huge which makes you appreciate the hint of fresh potatoes paired nicely with their cheesy jack daniels sauce. i didn’t get to try this but my friend has always loved their poutine!
heart of lilith- belvedere premium vodka & soho lychee liqueur & blackberry liqueur & lemonade ($10), and the believer- absolut vodka & ginger beer & lemonade & fresh cucumber, lemon, and lime ($10), and scotch
oddly enough, this round of drinks were drastically stronger than the ones we previously had. i guess the bartender decided it was time to intoxicate the customers knowing that it was getting late and people would soon be leaving! hehe kidding aside, the energy level in the room was dying down which was actually a good thing because the atmosphere was a lil loud to begin with.
all in all, we had a great time here and would come back for food and drinks. chill winston just adds another reason as to why i love gastown!
