momoyama at the sheraton hotel (桃山日本料理)- TAIPEI

January 29, 2011

im taking a step back to complete my taipei updates from the winter holiday. initially, i planned to write about my dine out experience at italian kitchen last night but someone jacked my camera as i was dancing away in the club. so upset!

momoyama is situated on the 2nd floor of the sheraton hotel in taipei. it has been my family’s favorite japanese restaurant in taipei for a few years now. it is clean, spacious, has a sushi bar, provides private and tatami rooms, excellent service, and the food is impeccable. furthermore, they have the BEST sukiyaki in town.

complimentary fried rice crackers (炸米果)–  i don’t think they usually serve this but we ask for it every time. this is served warm because it comes fresh off the fryer. we always munch on way too many of these crackers before our food comes.

sea urchin (海膽) – fresh and tasty

spinach with sesame sauce (菠菜)– this is a cold appetizer. the texture of the spinach is wonderful and the sesame sauce completes the dish. it goes really well with the veggies. my cousin thinks that this is the best spinach dish she’s ever had.

vinegar kelp (醋伴海帶)– i don’t particularly like sour stuff but everyone else enjoyed it.

fried burdock (炒牛蒡) – this was REALLY good. it is one of momoyama’s signature dish. i thought it was related to beef at first (because 牛= cow), but its actually a type of herb that benefits the human skin.

sashimi assortment (生魚片)– momyama always has top quality and fresh sashimi that melts in your mouth. i think its cute how they added the rabbit figure to celebrate the year of the rabbit 2011.

hand-rolled asparagus shrimp (蘆筍蝦手捲)

sashimi rice box (蓋飯)– i didn’t taste this but its supposed to be bomb. love the colorful presentation!

cod (鱈魚) – again, this is a must order. tender and flavorful. gone in 3 minutes.

grilled fish cheek (烤魚下巴)

their amazing sukiyaki (壽喜燒)– look at the color of the beef slices! definitely top quality stuff and so DELISH.

for dessert some of us had the hot almond soup (杏仁露) which wasn’t bad.

complimentary fruit plate (水果盤) for each person at the end of dinner.

i always look forward to my next meal at momoyama at the sheraton hotel taipei. it’s not a cheap eat, but you are guaranteed an excellent dining experience.

p.s: check out my cousin’s blog about this meal at yonatsumi (its in chinese)
