the keg- VANCOUVER
vancouverites often say that ‘you have never experienced vancouver dining if you never been to the keg!’ & this is why i decided to take my steak-loving boyfriend visiting from los angeles to the keg in yaletown on a saturday night.
we started off with the french onion soup– hearty beef broth, spanish onions, swiss and parmesan cheeses
> (i ordered it easy on salt) its pretty standard- you cant really go wrong with lots of cheese!
next we had the trio sampler that consisted of steamed fresh asparagus, portabella & button mushrooms, and sweet potato fries
> yummy! especially the steamed asparagus
as for my entree i ordered the small portion of prime rib that came with mashed potatoes and fried onion strings
>to be honest my prime rib was just OK (it didn’t have the texture where it just melts in your mouth, but then again i usually have thinner cuts and steak soaked in lawrys house sauce- such a shame we don’t have lawrys here), i didn’t touch the fried onion strings, but the mash potatoes were amazing
my boyfriend had the rib steak w/sauteed mushrooms served with twice baked potatoes (contained with bacon bits)
> he tells me later that he “enjoyed it but the steak was a bit undercooked”, but the mash potatoes were really delicious
+ to sum up my evening, the keg in yaletown is the nicest keg ive been to. the decor is modern yet warm, and we were seated on the second floor patio/roof top bar with an awesome view, comfy sofas, and heaters. service was decent but not friendly enough, and my boyfriend and i discovered a pretty discomforting scene on the patio that we decided to keep to ourselves at least for now…
