cafe barcelona- VANCOUVER
i love coming down to cafe barcelona on granville street/downtown to satisfy my love for REAL spanish tapas & sangria! me and my boy came here on a quiet sunday thanksgiving night. there were many tables open and we were seated quickly in the romantic candle-lit room. i ordered a glass of sangria right away and was glad to see they made some modifications to the menu.
croquetas (ham & tuna) $6/4 pieces
> the tuna is more flavorful than the ham but they were both fried to perfection!
this pintxo plate was on the board and this was my boyfriends favorite dish, it was (i think) tomato sauce with red pepper & cod
> tastes better than it looks. the sauce is really delicious, i would advise you to save it as a dip for your other tapas
tortilla de patatas $8.00– spanish potato and onion omelette served with tomato bread
>i dont know why i always order this. i really like the idea of potato, onion, egg, and tomato together, but this didn’t taste very flavorful at all
mushroom, carmelized onions and jamon
> this was satisfactory- carmelized onions with anything is always good
lastly, we ordered some kind of sausage off the pintxo menu off the chalkboard. i would highly recommend you to try!
+ overall it was a good traditional spanish dining experience. i just love tapas because you get a small portion of many things/small tasting plates. i was a little bombarded with bread in the end (since every dish besides the croquetas came with bread), but that’s the essence of real spanish tapas!
