julian serrano- (ARIA) LAS VEGAS

June 19, 2012

After breakfast at the Le Pain Quotidien my boyfriend and I drove midway to Vegas when we realized that we left our EDC tickets at home. *FAINT* our hearts literally stopped. We drove back to LA and it took another 4 hours when we finally, and I mean FINALLY, arrived at the Aria hotel in Las Vegas astonishingly still in one piece, whew. Since we stayed at the Aria, it was convenient to choose Julian Serrano next to the hotel lobby for dinner. I had too much of a good time sipping on sangria and catching up with friends that I didn’t really have time to focus too much on the food but I’ll try my best to recall.

Mojito & Sangria
At the restaurant we ordered drinks to start. The sangria was one of the best one’s I’ve had in a while.

Lobster Gazpacho- traditional chilled spanish soup, lobster meat  11
It’s official, my boyfriend sucks at ordering food. He always seems to order all the wrong dishes including this one. He was caught off guard when the gazpacho ball exploded in his mouth but his reaction was priceless.

Mediterranean Bass- donostiarra sauce, tomato confit, arbol chili, garlic 14
Healthy and flavorful.

Salmon with Truffle- truffle béchamel, portabello mushroom 12
Our favorite dish of the night. I melted a little bit when I took a bite because the truffle really came through.

Chicken Chilindron- ragout of peppers tomato and iberico ham 12
Not sure why but in my mind I always thought this dish was called curry chicken. I also don’t remember eating ham in this dish so it probably isn’t even called the chicken chilindron but this is the closest title I can find on the online menu so deal with it. Nevertheless, this was packed with flavor and the meat was juicy.

Lobster Salad- chilled lobster claw, baby heirloom tomatoes, red onion 14
I liked the crisps dark greens and the light salad dressing. Also, the lobster meat was fresh and chewy.

Mixed Seafood Ceviche- shrimp, white fish, octopus, cilantro, lime juice 14
Not too memorable.

Brava Potatoes- spicy tomato, alioli sauce 9

Roasted Red Peppers- fresh garlic, sherry vinaigrette, e.v.o.o. 10

Valenciana- chicken, rabbit, spanish pork chorizo, vegetables, saffron rice

Although not every dish was perfect I couldn’t ask for a better meal. It was more about the right moment, the right people, and the right amount of drinks and food we ordered that made the whole dining experience truly satisfying.
