go fish ocean emporium- VANCOUVER

April 13, 2011

my heart almost stopped when i failed to recognize the #15 restaurant ranked on urbanspoon! OMG how can i not know about this place? although im not really a fish & chips kinda gal, i knew that i couldn’t miss out. the perfect opportunity came when my boyfriend visited last weekend. the sun was shining, we were craving seafood, and we talked about going back to granville island since forever. go fish isn’t exactly a restaurant but it’s a cute little shack down by false creek (walking distance from granville island) with outdoor seating and patio, and a-mazing view. i went in not knowing what to expect… but was pretty blown away by pretty much everything.

BEAUTIFUL!!

char grilled wild pacific salmon, side stripe shrimp mayo, japanese style pickled cucumber and organic greens/ served on a fresh “tartine bakery” portuguese style bun with pacific rim coleslaw ($9.5)
i requested no cucumbers in my sandwich and boy was it DELICIOUS. i tried the fish itself to see how well it was cooked and the salmon was moist and tender, seasoned properly, and it won’t let you forget that its grilled. when i ate it as a sandwich, it all came together and i couldn’t stop eating! their portuguese bread is also lightly toasted and super fresh. i was told that its a type of buttermilk bread that they get delivered from granville islands tartine bakery. b & i actually tried looking for the bakery after lunch but made our way into la baguette bakery instead (oops).

halibut and chips (homemade granvilled island beer batter)/ served with pacific rim soleslaw, classic pomme frites and condiments ($10)
byron says “the fish was cooked perfectly, lightly seasoned, heavily fried but the batter wasn’t overbearing. best of all the fish still kept its juiciness and flavor. with a little bit of salt and pepper on top it was good. the fries was also solid, they were crispy and well-seasoned.”

AHH what an excellent lunch! chowing on some of the best seafood comfort food by the bay is so relaxing! LOVE IT. i am taking my parents here when they visit! fyi, do go early to avoid long lines!

Tartine Bakery is not on Granville Island but rather across False Creek at 770 Beach Av. http://www.tartine.ca/ They sell those buns on a daily basis.
